I just got my CE edition of ME2 4 days ago, just finished my third playthrough and gotten most of the game completed. I quickly picked up on a few thing after playing for a bit.For better, the detail/graphics, and the auto-assigning better weapons. For worse, ME2 compared to ME1 has lost some of its ''Free roam/play'' feeling like ME1 had. The armor being mostly restricted to pre-order bonuses and dr.pepper codes, and very few weapons (atleast compared to ME1). Another thing was how much fewer shops there were and (yes i know theres a reason) how much tinier the citadel was.Well some can debate that this is not the truth, a game without an inventory is kind of annoying. I liked selling old junker weapons for cash to buy new weapons. The storyline seems to be less ''thrilling'' aswell. The plot itself is perfect, but the way they tell it in ME2 kinda stinks. atleast from my viewPersonally I would have rather have seen a ''digitally remastered'' edition of ME1 come out instead of this new game. Anyone got thoughts/comments on this?ME2 verses ME1 for better or for worse?
I don't know dude, it might be my favorite game this generation... there's something really gripping about the universe and characters.ME2 verses ME1 for better or for worse?

I know what you mean. Mass Effect is one of the best trilogy's that will exist EVER and I was glad for a continuation of the story. I just feel they ditched a few things that made ME1 so grand. And the RPG game has lost some of its RPG'ness.
ME2 is better then ME1 in every single way.Bioware did an amazing job making a good series into a masterpeice.Better combat, better voice acting, better optimized, MUCH better level design and more fun.To be honest I could careless about a useless inventory from ME1.They did the impossible and made ME1 even better with ME2.95% of the stuff you found in ME1 was useless anyways, im glad they fixed that part of the game. The only thing that ME1 did better was that it was longer (ME1 lasted me 48 hours while ME2 lasted me 38 hours)

Don't you miss the citadel at all? Call me old fashioned but I think/wish bioware could have made some kind of integration with the council and the citadel a bit more. Like, I don't care how long ago, but the guy that plopped you into the councilor chair/saved your hide should deserve kind of ''YAY YOUR BACK!''
I think ME2 tells the Story nicely.. They didnt want to put him on a chair and say ''yay he's back''..
Theres a part in the Story at the start that says why the council wasnt welcomeing him back.. or when you get to the citidel for teh first time i think Anderson explains it.. I think most ppl would have loved a larger City area to walk around in tho.. They do have alot of other nice areas tho..
Great game..
ME2 is miles better than ME1, IMO.
ME2 is better then ME1 in every single way.Bioware did an amazing job making a good series into a masterpeice.Better combat, better voice acting, better optimized, MUCH better level design and more fun.
^This.

See, this is where the debate goes on about what you consider an RPG. To, I guess it would be the ''RPG Purist,'' they expect huge inventory screens and lines and lines of stat allocation with combat being more base on your stats.
But ME2 trimmed down what it already did in ME1, got rid of the horrible, unorganized inventory, made the game less about nitpicking inventory and stat allocation and more about the action and your interactions with the characters and the overall story. So you get to focus on ''playing your role'' in this complex story.
Joystiq had a review that was totally online with how I felt about the game.
Review: Mass Effect 2
I think more games should and will move in this direction. It is a much more engaging experience IMO.
I know what everyone means, but no ones really answer my question. I know the combat system is much more improves, many perks about stats/weapon assigning make it easier. But, my question is the comparison of ME1-ME2. ME2 is better then ME1 alot, but what if we removed that 5 year difference?Removing controversial topics like the inventory. The combat system is better, graphics are better, but what if ME1 had the advantages that new technology gives bioware in 2010? Would it be better or for worse.Never heard anyone argue about them removing some of the RPG'ness about it. RPG itself is free roaming customization. I miss the fact that theres only really 2 sets of armor in the entire game. and only like 2-4 different weapons for each weapon type.So im asking, everyone think really hard about it, is ME2 really better, or is it just the graphics and the extra little perks? I preffer ME2 alot more, but if you made both games in the same year id go with ME1

Totally agreed, I am a loot whore, and the fact that you can't buy and change your crews armor really sucks.

ahh thank god. I beleive some games go overboard with loot and all that. But come on! RPG games man, id like some customization besides pre-order bonuses and a bottle of Dr.Pepper (a dr.pepper slogan on armor would be cool tho)
I think they're both grade ''A'' material for sure. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. ME2 has much longer gameplay and replay value, as opposed to ME1. However, they took out vehicles (unless they're further on in the game) in ME2, I know both will leave a lasting impression on me, almost like seeing a great movie. They're both epic games in my book.
me2 is better, though i really miss the familiar feel of me1. the lousy mako handling, boring terrains, rpg elements, yeah, i really do miss that. but something about me2 is compelling. it feels like a whole new game. it's still an rpg really, but rather than upgrading stats, you upgrade through equipments, by scanning and stripping planets of it's resources a lot that enviromentalist should sue bioware.
I agree about the lack of different armor although you way you can customise your armor is cool. Im actually glad theres no inventory system. Trying to juggle the numerous weapons, augmentations and armors was a pain in the first ME. Maybe instead of removing it though, Bioware could've just greatly improved the UI to make it easier. I don't know, overall though im liking ME2 a lot more.
I wish Ashley/Kaidan had a bigger role in the game, considering they were only there for like 20 seconds.
I havent finished the game yet but the amount of time ashley/kaiden are in ME2 might be due to a choice you made in ME1 involving the storyline (if i remember correctly)
