The lack of fact checking hurts my eyes. :xWhy did Bioware release 2 major titles s ...
Mass Effect 2 is already out and I haven't even finished my 2nd playthrough of Dragon Age. I mean they're so close together that they are practically competing with each other for sales. From a business standpoint, I just don't get it. I mean look at Harmonix, they're releasing so many guitar hero and DJ hero games so close together that they are doing poorly having to compete with one-another. Is this EA's doing? I was really uneasy about Bioware getting bought out by them already.
Two things. The first being that these titles do not compete against each other at all. Dragon Age sold a TON, and is still selling well. Mass Effect 2 has already shipped millions of copies. Secondly, Harmonix does the Rock Band games. Activision does GH. Check your facts before posting dude.
Considering how utterly amazing both games are, I don't think the EA aquisition has hurt Bioware at all - in fact, they seem to be flourishing under their new master... Under EA, Bioware could've just slapped a fresh coat of paint on Mass Effect 1 and released it as Mass Effect 2 for a quick cash-in, but instead they delivered a game that trumps the first in every meaningful respect... and Dragon Age's critical success also speaks for itself - it's not just getting by on it's pedigree...
I do agree with you that the timing feels almost too close together but look at it this way: is there any such thing as too much Bioware goodness?
Seems like they're gonna focus on Old Republic for all 2010 with no more releases til Old Republic in Spring 2011 on PCi wish they'd make a new Jade Empire on 360 already,i'd take that for fall 2011, with Mass Effect 3 in 2013.And no one wants to give us a proper KOTOR 3, so that's ideally what i want from BioWarei wasn't interested in DA:O though i imagine its good, i'm tired of the middle earth-esque theme but i will pick it up once it hits $20 and i need a filler title between releases
I don't care why they did it. I'm just happy I can enjoy two awesome games so close to one another.
For a 3rd party developer, thier really not that close. Dragon Age came out in what, October?
Well, it is certainly werid, but, remember the following. Dragon Age is a non-deterministic game. What I mean is, the release date of DA is completely random. They developed their own engine for this game and mostly aim at their PC fans. This is more of a fan fair based game. The development is completely separate from Mass Effect. The release date of DA is just as soon as the game is finished. There is actually no direct marketing presure on it.
While Mass Effect2 is using ME engine which is Unreal Engine3, they do have a lot of time restriction on it. And since they already have ME, making ME2 is a lot faster.
Simply put, it is just a random coicident. ME2 has a fixed release period while DA does not. It is just so happened DA is finished few months before ME2.

agreed, i dont think they were THAT close together, and just because you havent finished your second playthrough doesnt mean other people havent. Bioware arent releasing games to fit in with your schedule
The lack of fact checking hurts my eyes. :x
Well you might not wanna watch Fox News Channel then!
Agreed with whoever said there is never enough BioWare goodness.
For a 3rd party developer, thier really not that close. Dragon Age came out in what, October?
closer to december Down Under ( i got it as a christmas present! just finished with 50 hours!)
Benjamin Franklin said that proof of God's love for us was that he created beer....the same can be said for BioWare....the more the merrier.
Wont find me complaining. They released two amazing games, im glad.

I don't think they are competing at all and they are both doing quite well.

Because Dragon Age sucked.
Not everyone liked Dragon Ages, not everyone liked Mass effect 2 so Bioware did a good move and anyway they're not that close together.

That seems pretty close to me.
Not everyone liked Dragon Ages, not everyone liked Mass effect 2 so Bioware did a good move and anyway they're not that close together.
Agreed. In all honesty, comparing a scifi game to a fantasy game is absurd; two different settings appeal to a wider range of people. As for why they released them so close... money. That's a given.
